The Baltimore Ravens house one of the best signal-callers in the NFL, Lamar Jackson. The soon-to-be two-time NFL MVP has led the Ravens to their first AFC Championship since 2012. Baltimore has won two Super Bowls during their storied tenure in the NFL, yet it’s been over a decade since they hoisted the Lombardi. Jackson could become the third quarterback in franchise history to win the Super Bowl, joining Joe Flacco in 2012 and Trent Dilfer in 2000. One consistent of those championship teams was Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis. However, former NFL MVP Cam Newton believes Jackson already means more to the city than Lewis.
Cam Newton: Picks Jackson over Lewis for Most Influential Raven
On his podcast 4th & 1, Newton spoke about a conversation with a Baltimore native. The Ravens fan told Newton that quarterback Lamar Jackson has already become more influential than team legend Ray Lewis. When asked if Newton would take Jackson over Lewis, he said, “I have to.”

Suggesting Ray Lewis is not the most influential Raven of all time is a bold take. Lewis won two Super Bowls with Baltimore, spending his 17-year career with the AFC North club. The Miami product made seven All-Pro teams. He won Defensive Player of the Year twice while leading the league in tackles thrice.
Newton continued, saying, “There is not a more dynamic player in all of football than Lamar Jackson. Patrick Mahomes is dynamic in his own right. He is dynamic in his own right, but a different dynamic. But electric? Virginia Tech Michael Vick-electric. That’s Lamar Jackson”
Jackson is undoubtedly electric, rushing for at least 750 yards in the past five seasons. He tallied a ridiculous 1,206 rushing yards and seven scores in 2019. He also led the league in passing touchdowns that season.
“Lamar Jackson is the epitome of keeping the main thing the main thing.”
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson: Enjoyed MVP-Type Season
Jackson is near-locked to winning the MVP this season. Jackson finished the season as the clear favorite despite placing outside the top ten in passing yards and touchdowns while failing to tally 30 total touchdowns. He led Baltimore to a league-best 13-4 record while dominating the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins during his final two games. Jackson finished the season with 3,678 yards passing, 24 touchdowns, and seven picks. He also ran for 821 yards and five scores with six fumbles.
