The Baltimore Ravens started training camp on Sunday at the Under Armour Performance Center and practiced through Wednesday but had Thursday off. They will continue practice on Friday and have the weekend off. They resume on Monday and run through next Thursday.
The Ravens’ offensive line will look different next season.
The Baltimore Ravens offensive line will return two starters from 2023
The Ravens currently have two starting offensive linemen returning for another season. LT Ronnie Stanley and C Tyler Linderbaum look to carry their offensive line after three starters departed in free agency. LG John Simpson signed with the Jets, RG Kevin Zeitler signed with the Lions, and the Ravens traded Morgan Moses to the Jets.
They currently have three starting vacancies, including LG, RG, and RT. Today, we will focus on their left guard situation. One player has emerged as the early favorite to start Week 1.
The Baltimore Ravens’ former 7th-round pick has emerged as the favorite to start at LG
Mel Kiper Jr. had projected Andrew Vorhees as a Day 2 draft pick ahead of the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. Unfortunately, Vorhees suffered a torn ACL during the combine. Due to his injury, he slid to the 7th round, and the Ravens snatched him with the 229th overall pick.
The Ravens placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list during roster cuts. As a result, he missed the entire 2023 season.
Thankfully, Vorhees is fully healthy and ready to compete. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic has him as the favorite to start at left guard.
Andrew Vorhees is “thrilled” to return to the football field
“Yes, [it’s the] first time I get to be a football player in quite some time,” Vorhees said. “The last time I stepped on the field was back in the fall of 2022, so as you could imagine, [it’s] just [a] long time coming. So, [I’m] super thrilled to be back out there. It’s just been so much to just be a part of the team atmosphere.
“It’s really what is such a privilege [about] playing a team sport like this; you just get to go out there and be a part of something that’s way bigger than yourself, and you just get to count on other guys and rely on other guys to put in the effort, the time, the discipline that it takes to be great football players. So, all that combined, it’s just … [I] can’t state it enough – how much of a privilege it is to be back out there again and just how thankful I am for everyone who kind of helped get me back to being back out on the field.”
Possible competitors
Andrew Vorhees isn’t guaranteed a starting spot and will compete against a few players.
The first player competing is Ben Cleveland. The 3rd-round pick from 2021 started four games as a rookie but lost the starting left guard job in back-to-back seasons, losing to Ben Powers in 2022 and John Simpson in 2023. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the season, and this could be his final chance of starting with the Ravens.
Cleveland is also competing for the starting right guard job. However, Daniel Faalele has received reps at RG and has a chance of starting.
The second player competing is Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu. Aumavae-Laulu, a 6th-round pick from 2023, also lost the starting LG job in 2023 after taking the early lead in training camp. As a result, he missed the entire 2023 season as a healthy scratch. He is competing for both starting guard positions.
Other possible competitors include Patrick Mekari and Josh Jones. Mekari will likely serve as the swing tackle, and Jones could compete for both guard spots and the right tackle job.
