The Las Vegas Raiders’ backup quarterback situation is reportedly unclear ahead of their Week 4 contest against the Las Angeles Chargers. The Raiders knew they might have a problem at quarterback as Jimmy Garoppolo was placed in the concussion protocol this week.
Garoppolo was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. We now know his status for the game against the Chargers.
But we don’t know who will be the starting quarterback for the Raiders on Sunday.
The Las Vegas Raiders need to choose Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup
According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Raiders will choose between the Raiders 2023 fourth-round pick Aidan O’Connell or 15-year veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer. Hoyer has experience with head coach Josh McDaniels when he was the offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.
With Jimmy Garoppolo out Sunday, the Raiders now will have to choose between rookie QB Aidan O'Connell, a fourth-round draft pick from Purdue who has yet to be active for an NFL game or 15-year veteran QB Brian Hoyer, who worked with HC Josh McDaniels in New England.

That will be one of the more intriguing game-time decisions in Week 4. The Raiders need one of those two quarterbacks to step up and try and lead the Raiders to a .500 record. They’ll have a chance to throw to one of the best wide receivers in the game, Davante Adams.
