The Atlanta Falcons may have to make some hard decisions to improve for the coming season. One of those moves they should make is to hand cornerback AJ Terrell a contract extension ahead of the 2024 campaign.
Before becoming a pro in the league, Terrell played college football at Clemson University, where he was a two-time All-ACC selection and won the national championship in 2018. He was then selected by the Falcons in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

In his rookie season with the Falcons, Terrell had a solid start, recording his first career interception in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. He continued to improve in his second season, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2021 with three interceptions and a career-high 82.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
Terrell has established himself as a key part of the Falcons’ secondary, using his size, speed, and ball skills to excel in coverage. As he enters his fourth NFL season, he will look to build on his early success and solidify his status as one of the league’s top young cornerbacks.
Cornerback AJ Terrell Named As Atlanta Falcons’ Most Important Contract Extension For Next Season

The Falcons have several guys who are in line for a contract extension soon. In an article posted on Bleacher Report, Ryan Fowler detailed why Terrell is the most important guy to get an extension from Atlanta.
“Terrell has blossomed into one of the games premier perimeter corners. He started in each in Atlanta’s 17 games last fall tallying 8 passes defended, and 16 in the last two seasons combined.
As time wears on, the price on premier corners will only increase. The league’s top paid cornerbacks in Jaire Alexander, Denzel Ward and Jalen Ramsey all make more than $20 million annually.
While Terrell has yet to make a Pro Bowl in any of his first four seasons, getting ahead of the ever growing corner market would be sensible for Fontenot,” Fowler wrote.
Last season, the Falcons finished with a record of seven wins and 10 losses. Their offense was ranked 26th in the league while their defense was in 18th place out of 32 teams.

If Atlanta wants to build a contender, giving Terrell the extension he deserves is among the first steps they can take. Given time, wisdom, and patience, it won’t be hard to see the Falcons rising up in the NFC division in years to come.
