At the 11th hour the Chicago Bears sign their 2nd round draft pick Jaquan Brisker to a 4 year deal. According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears and Brisker were able to come to terms on a contract that enables Brisker to make it to training camp. At the time of this article the details of the deal are not yet known. They will likely be released very soon. The four year contract which is capped due to agreements made as part of the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement should be around $7.5 million.

The Bears are finalizing a four-year contract for second-round pick Jaquan Brisker, which will allow the safety to report to Halas Hall on Tuesday as the team convenes for training camp.@danwiederer’s story. https://t.co/rVl3HWGJya

Jaquan Brisker was threatening to holdout from training camp due to differences over guaranteed money in the 3rd year of the contract. Typically only about 50% of a rookie contract is guaranteed. As for the 3rd year guaranteed money the pick before Brisker has only $110,000 guaranteed. The pick after Brisker has no guaranteed money in the 3rd year. In contrast to these numbers the Houston Texans gave their 37th overall pick, Jalen Pitre, 78% of his contract guaranteed. They also guaranteed his entire 3rd year which amounts to about $2.4 million. Brisker was wanting numbers closer to Pitre than the average or the picks near his.
The good news is a deal is done. The expected rookie starter will not miss practice time due to this situation. It is also one less issue facing the Bears and Ryan Poles. With the news that Roquan Smith will holdout from training camp until he gets a new deal, this Jaquan Brisker news comes at a great time.
