Brown admitted on The Next Network podcast that he wasn’t getting the ball that much, and would move on from himself in order to try and win in a fantasy football league.
“I’m not getting the ball here often, I’ve got to make a change,” said Brown. “I’ve got to find a win somewhere. If I’m not getting the ball in real life, I’m going to try to find a win in fantasy.
Brown is in his second year with the Cardinals, and he spent most of the season without starting quarterback Kyler Murray. He has taken a back seat to emerging tight end Trey McBride in terms of receptions and receiving yards.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is on pace for the least productive year he’s had since his rookie year
Brown currently has 574 yards receiving on 51 receptions, with two games left to play. The last time Brown lacked production to this degree was his rookie year. He only played 14 games with the Baltimore Ravens, and ended up with 584 yards on 46 receptions.
Despite the similar statistics, Brown has 30 more targets this season than he did in his rookie year, despite playing in the same number of games. This could be the result of not having his starting quarterback for the majority of the year. In his rookie year, Brown had the NFL MVP Lamar Jackson throwing to him.
On just six more targets and two less games in 2022, Brown had 709 yards receiving on 16 more receptions. Brown has still not been able to find the end zone at the rate he did in Baltimore. He had three touchdowns last year, and he has four so far this year. His lowest touchdown total in Baltimore was six.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown may be struggling due to Kyler Murray’s extended absence
Brown has not had much success since the return of Kyler Murray, but he did have his second highest receiving yard total (88). Despite playing together in college for the Oklahoma Sooners, the two missed out on a lot of opportunities to build chemistry this season.
The two have only played three full games together due to injuries, and the one game where Brown got more than two targets saw him have one of the better games of the season. Brown’s best performance came against the San Francisco 49ers, a game where Brown was four yards away from eclipsing the century mark.
Brown had quarterback Joshua Dobbs throwing to him for most of the season. Dobbs has since been acquired by the Minnesota Vikings. Dobbs only threw more than one touchdown three times this year as a Cardinal.
Tight end Trey McBride is leading the team in receptions this year, despite having eight less targets than Brown. Brown is projected to become a free agent this year, and it is unclear whether he will stay with the team.
