Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray could make his season debut on Sunday, but NFL fans will have to wait until at least late Friday to know for sure. Per Omar Ruiz of the NFL Network, head coach Jonathan Gannon talked to the media early Friday, stating he has yet to decide on his Week 9 quarterback.
Jonathan Gannon says they haven’t decided who will start for the #Cardinals at QB vs Browns Sunday. He said they’ll likely decide on the plane today or tomorrow whether it’s Kyler Murray or Clayton Tune. Said they’ve had a good week of practice.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray: Long Awaited 2023 Debut on the Horizon
Kyler Murray, the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, tore his ACL late last season against the New England Patriots and has yet to return to the gridiron. However, the former Heisman Trophy Award winner returned from the PUP list last month and is nearing his season debut, potentially on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Murray has thrown 84 touchdowns against 41 picks in his four-year NFL career. The two-time Pro-Bowler has also added 23 scores on the ground. His best season came in 2021, with the Oklahoma product throwing for 3,787 yards and 24 touchdowns with ten interceptions. He also ran for 423 yards and five touchdowns while leading Arizona to the playoffs.
Clayton Tune: Rookie QB Could Get the Nod for Arizona Cardinals on Sunday
Rookie quarterback Clayton Tune has a chance to make his first NFL start on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. The fifth-round pick has made just one pass attempt this season but starred while playing for the Houston Cougars in college. Tune threw for 70 touchdowns against 20 picks in his final two seasons. The 24-year-old played well in the preseason, going 33-of-59 for 353 yards and a touchdown against a pick.
