Rumors are circulating about Arch Manning’s future in college football for 2024. The Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback has not seen the field in his first year under head coach Steve Sarkisian.

No one expected Manning to win the starting job in September, as Texas had a top-five NFL quarterback prospect for the 2024 draft, Quinn Ewers, back under center this season. But Ewers suffered an AC sprain against Houston that had the Longhorns bring in backup redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy as the starter in their previous two contests.
Murphy, who was a four-star recruit for the 2022 class, has underwhelmed since he was asked to step in for Ewers. He has a 55.7 completion percentage, three touchdowns, and three interceptions this season. Many Texas fans were calling for Manning to come into the Kansas State game.
Sarkisian opted to stick with Murphy. And he’s planning to keep Murphy as the starter until Ewers can return later this season.

Football fans and pundits think Manning might transfer out of a loaded quarterback room this winter in order to get playing time on the field. It’s telling that Sarkisian hasn’t allowed Manning to play a snap since Ewers has been injured.
