Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was one of the best freshman in the country during the 2024 college football season. Smith played a huge role in the Buckeyes run to a national title.

Smith caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards receiving, and 15 touchdowns, along with averaging 17.3 yards per reception. He also had his longest reception of 70 yards during the 2024 college football season. Smith is 6’3″ and weighs 215 lbs. He will look to continue to turn heads during his sophomore season. Had he been eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft, there is no doubt he could have been a Top 5 to Top 10 pick. He won’t be eligible until the 2027 NFL Draft.
CBS Sports Will Backus Has Ohio State Buckeyes Wide Receiver Jeremiah Smith Over Safety Caleb Downs As Team MVP Entering the 2025 College Football Season

Will Backus of CBS Sports created his MVP list for each Top 25 team entering the 2025 college football season. He has the Buckeyes as the fourth ranked team on his list, and he had wide receiver Smith as the MVP over safety Caleb Downs. Backus said,
“The best player in college football is, unsurprisingly, the most important player for the reigning national champions. A special nod to Caleb Downs, though, the heartbeat of an Ohio State defense that has to overhaul several positions. Smith is an early Heisman Trophy favorite and he should make the transition absolutely seamless for whoever takes over at quarterback. He has an argument as the best player in college football. “
Smith is no doubt going to be one of the best wide receivers in the nation during the 2026 college football season. It would not be a total surprise if he was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy this season. Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns, Cade Klubink of the Clemson Tigers, and Ryan Williams of the Alabama Crimson Tide will be some names to watch for in the Heisman Trophy race in 2025 along with the Buckeyes star wide receiver.
