Alexander Mattison did not manage to produce the season he would have hoped after the departure of Dalvin Cook in the 2023 offseason.
Alexander Mattison Looking For A Fresh Start After Below Par Season
Mattison rushed for 700 yards, averaging 3.9 yards/carry and scoring 0 touchdowns, far short of the Minnesota Vikings’ expectations that he could become a 1000 yard + rusher and prove himself to be a legitimate number 1 tailback.
Even worse for Mattison was the eventual replacement by former 5th round pick, Ty Chandler, towards the end of the season, as the premier back in head coach, Kevin O’Connell’s system.
His departure seemed inevitable, and after the running back market stagnated in free agency after the initial signing burst from Tony Pollard, Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley, it seems like Alexander Mattison has found his new home, per Tom Pelissero.

Las Vegas Raiders Rebuilding Their Running Back Room After The Loss Of Josh Jacobs
The Las Vegas Raiders are reeling from what has been yet another disappointing season amidst ineffectual coaching from fired head coach, Josh McDaniels, and poor quarterback play from starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, that lead to his eventual benching for rookie 4th round pick, Aiden O’Connell.
With Josh Jacobs not quite performing up to his 2022 All Pro level, it always seemed unlikely that the partially rebuilding Raiders would make a demonstrative statement to keep the 5th year back, so alternative options were required alongside former 2022 4th rounder, Zamir White, who showed some impressive flashes in 2023.
In Alexander Mattison, the Raiders are getting a physical power back who, if utilized correctly, could provide an excellent second option for the Black and Gold – and can get his once very promising career back on track.
