The spring transfer portal officially opened Monday night, and we are about to see another wave of big-time college football players again enter the transfer portal.
The SEC Portal Is A Lot Different In The Spring
The spring transfer portal operates under unique rules for SEC teams like Alabama. If a player transfers in the spring window from another SEC school, they can’t transfer to another SEC team without facing a penalty.
Usually, you won’t see an SEC player go from one school to another SEC school in the spring since they would have to pay a penalty for it, so the big-time player from the SEC usually transfers during the winter portal.
Alabama Will See Some Players Head To The Portal This Spring
A handful of Alabama players will enter the portal in the next few weeks after seeing where they stand on the roster, and many players who stayed realized they probably won’t be playing much in 2024, so they decided to leave in the next few weeks.
Quarterback Ty Simpson Won’t Be Heading To The Portal
One Alabama player who won’t be heading into the transfer portal that many people thought would is quarterback Ty Simpson.
A report from Ryan Fowler from the Tide 100.9 stated Simpson was supposed to stay at Alabama and had a sit-down meeting with his family and head coach Kalen DeBoer before deciding to stay with the Crimson Tide.
Simpson Will Backup Milroe Once Again
Of course, Jalen Milroe is the starting quarterback, but it is essential to have a backup quarterback who knows what he is doing if Milroe were to go down. Having Simpson as the backup is excellent; he could fill a hole just in case.
