Nick Saban’s era with the Alabama Crimson Tide may have come to an end, but that doesn’t mean he’s no longer going to be involved with the team moving forward.
Despite his shocking retirement at the end of their 2023 season following Alabama’s College Football Playoffs exit, Saban shared that he will still help the team in any way he can should they seek for his assistance.
Nick Saban’s Promise To Alabama Crimson Tide
During the media session of the Nick Saban Legacy Awards, the famed head coach was asked about what his role with the team would be following his departure.
Saban pointed out that Alabama and the Crimson Tide will always have a special place in his heart before adding that his retirement doesn’t mean he will stop in giving back to the community and the team where he won six national championships and nine SEC titles.
“Well, that’s our home, that’s our family, it’s our community. We’re going to continue to do things to help the community every way that we can,” Saban shared, via The Spun.
“The coaches all know that I’m available if they need me in any way, shape or form to help them. I talk to [head coach] Kalen [DeBoer] every now and then and talk to the defensive coordinator [Kane Wommack] every now and then. He’s going to come over and meet me this week sometime. We’re around. We’re there to support the players in any way that we can to help them be successful.”
That’s certainly music to the ears of Alabama and the new Crimson Tide coaching staff led by Kalen DeBoer. It will definitely be a massive transition for the team after Saban’s nearly two-decade stint with the program. He has been synonymous to Crimson Tide football for years, and so to suddenly change coaches is something the program is no longer familiar with.
Nick Saban Giving Back To Alabama Crimson Tide
For what it’s worth, it’s not only on the football team that Nick Saban is ready to help. With his coaching and winning pedigree, he’s open to assisting the whole university and its other sport programs.
That much is proven after Saban recently watched a game of the Alabama basketball team. Apparently, during the team’s bye week, he visited the players and shared some words of wisdom for them as they look to become a winning group.
“He just said, ‘What do you want to do to get where you want to go?'” guard Rylan Griffen shared on what Saban told them during his visit, per Sports Illustrated.
“When he speaks, you just take everything in. He’s a living legend, so you take in everything he says and apply it to your own personal life.”
It will definitely be weird not to see Saban on the sidelines during the Alabama Crimson Tide’s game in the 2024 season. However, at least the team can always count on his support moving forward.
