In the latest CFP rankings, the BYU Cougars have dropped to #14, leaving fans wondering what really drives rankings. BYU has far exceeded expectations this year, ranking as high as #6 in the AP poll, but a devastating home loss to a 3-6 Kansas team. Sure, the Jayhawks started the season out in the top 25, but things have not gone well for them this season. Still, is that enough for BYU to drop from the #4 spot all the way to #12? They now rank behind G5 Boise State and an SMU team that they beat at SMU.
BYU Cougars Fans Speak Up About CFP Rankings
While some college football fans think BYU should have dropped out of the rankings completely, many took to X to express their support for the Cougars and their frustration with the CFP committee. Even ESPN has BYU listed as one of the college football teams that should be the most angry over the CFP rankings. Here’s what fans had to say:
If only there was a way to know who would win between BYU and SMU. Oh wait. CFP rankings are a total joke-Big couggy (@cougas4life)does head to head not matter anymore?? why is smu ahead of us–Ryan Paulsen (@PaulsenRyogna)Get a better QB and a new OC.-Bravesfan (@bravesfan_atl)Absolutely ridiculous-Josh (@_JonesJ_)As a Colorado fan the BYU disrespect is ridiculous. You guys have a better win and a better loss than Notre Dame. You’re behind a team you beat at their house. The committee has no consistency.-Drob (@Drob520)
What’s Next?
BYU better get things turned back around quickly, because they face a red-hot Arizona State team in Tempe this week. If BYU wants to prove that they are legit, now is the time to do it. Their resume has some impressive wins but they also have had some incredibly close games that should never have been close. At least, if they really are as good as everyone thinks they are. They control their own destiny.
