The New York Jets could be in trouble with the NFL following a report about the team’s discussions with Aaron Rodgers this offseason. The Jets told the veteran quarterback they plan to release him in the spring.
Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey told Rodgers in an earlier meeting that they would “be open” to bringing back the four-time NFL MVP in 2025 on several conditions.
The New York Jets gave Aaron Rodgers an ultimatum

“Rodgers would no longer be permitted to make outside media appearances during the season, including his regular, paid appearances on ‘The Pat McAfee Show,'” Russini wrote.
Did the Jets violate the CBA?

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Jets would be violating the Collective Bargaining Agreement by giving Rodgers an ultimatum on off-field media.
“Then there’s this — the team has no right under the Collective Bargaining Agreement to restrict a player’s off-field media activities or to demand that he participate in any portion of the voluntary offseason workout program,” Florio wrote.
Before telling Aaron Rodgers they'll be moving on, the Jets reportedly told him that, if he stays, he'll be expected to ditch the weekly Pat McAfee appearances — and to fully embrace the offseason program. https://t.co/UDPPQnU4SY

The ultimatum would be a rookie mistake by a head coach and general manager acting in the first month on the job. If Rodgers and the NFLPA push the matter, New York could face punishment from the league.
We’ll see if Rodgers wants to play hardball with the Jets before he finds a new home for 2025.
