Aaron Rodgers was supposed to be the instant savior and face of the franchise for the New York Jets when they signed him ahead of last season.
But since his season-ending torn Achilles, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback has seemingly brought a ton of unnecessary drama to a franchise trying desperately to change its losing culture.
Rodgers has been a constant storyline all season long although he only played one series. Whether it’s his controversial statements on the Pat McAfee show that lead people to believe he’s a Donald Trump supporter or reports of dysfunction running rampant behind-the-scenes at the New York Jets facility, the off-the-field drama seems never ending.
The latest bit of drama may be the biggest, and apparently the New York Jets brass isn’t thrilled about it.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. approached both Aaron Rodgers and former WWE wrestler Jesse Ventura, an ex-governor of Minnesota, about appearing on his ticket as Vice President.
Kennedy has focused on getting access to the ballot, an expensive and time-consuming process that he has said will require him to collect more than a million signatures in a state-by-state effort.
Many states require independent candidates to name a running mate before they can seek access to the ballot, a factor driving the early push for Kennedy to make a pick.
Aaron Rodgers, the longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback who now plays for the Jets, shares Kennedy’s distrust of vaccine mandates and, like Kennedy, is a fixture on anti-establishment podcasts.
It comes after Rodgers only played four snaps in his first season with the Jets after suffering a nasty Achilles injury in his first game last September.
DailyMail.com revealed through sources that the New York Jets are ‘upset’ with Rodgers and say it is ‘ridiculous’ to think he could be campaigning and playing football at the same time.
A source said: ‘Lots of the Jets coaches and players want Aaron to commit to the team and worry about winning the Super Bowl over a chance to be in the White House.
“Aaron and Robert aren’t going to win but for Aaron to consider helping run the country over playing for the team has many with the Jets all upset because you have to pick one or the other.
Aaron can’t be campaigning through the week and then play the Dolphins the following weekend. It is ridiculous.”
The report said a New York Jets Source Noted Aaron Rodgers has already been a major distraction within the organization and this takes all the drama to a whole new level
Jemele Hill Blames New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Situation On Donald Trump
Former ESPN personality Jemele Hill is not a fan of Rodgers’ recent apparent move into politics, which might be culminating in Rodgers being named as a potential running mate in Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s presidential campaign. But she believes that the man to blame for this situation is actually former president Donald Trump.
Appearing on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Hill believes it’s “terrifying” that more people believe that they can do the job of President of the United States because Donald Trump won the 2016 election. She believes that Trump’s success in 2016 and near-victory in 2020 likely gives someone like Rodgers the belief that they could actually do it.
“It would be amusing if it weren’t also terrifying and if it weren’t also … arguably the most important leader in the world,” Hill said. “The unfortunate part of Trump’s presidency … is a lot of people feel like they can do the job. That they deserve to be in political office because he won.”
Jemele Hill didn’t stop there.
“If you’re Aaron Rodgers, regardless of the numerous idiotic things that you’ve said, why would you think you don’t have a chance at this?” she questioned. “Our political cycle literally proves that you have a great shot at perhaps becoming the vice president simply because of your name, simply because he has a legion of people who do not mind his (expletive).”
Jemele Hill has gotten into hot water in the past for statements she’s made about Donald Trump but clearly she believes the former president is to blame for Aaron Rodgers possibly running for office while simultaneously playing QB for the New York Jets.
