NFL teams have until May 2 to decide on exercising or declining the 5th-year options of the 1st-round picks from the 2021 NFL Draft class.
How are the 5th-year options calculated?
The 5th-year options are calculated by organizing each player into four tiers. The 33rd team goes into detail about the tiers and how much each player would make in 2025.
25th Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne: $6,143,000
Etienne missed the entirety of his rookie season because of a Lisfranc injury.
Etienne recorded 1,125 yards on 220 carries and five touchdowns in his second season. He also had 35 receptions for 316 yards.
Etienne had 1,008 yards on 267 carries and 11 touchdowns. He also had 58 receptions for 476 yards and one touchdown.
PREDICTION: They exercise his 5th-year option because he is valuable to their offense.
26th Pick: Cleveland Browns CB Greg Newsome II: $13,377,000
Newsome appeared in 12 games in his rookie season, recording 37 tackles and nine pass deflections. He allowed 39 receptions on 62 targets for 383 yards, one touchdown, and an 85.6 passer rating. He missed Weeks 4-5 with a calf injury and Weeks 14-16 with a concussion.
Newsome appeared in 15 games in his second season, recording 42 tackles and six pass deflections. He allowed 40 receptions on 69 targets for 406 yards, two touchdowns, and an 84.6 passer rating. He missed two games with a concussion.
Newsome appeared in 14 games in his third season, recording 49 tackles, two interceptions, one pick-six, and 14 pass deflections. He allowed 38 receptions on 67 targets for 450 yards, two touchdowns, and a 74.8 passer rating. He missed Week 3 with an elbow, Week 9 with a groin, and Week 18 with a knee injury.
PREDICTION: They exercise his 5th-year option because he has a crucial role on the defense.
27th Pick: Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman: $14,345,000
Bateman appeared in 12 games in his rookie season. He missed the first five because of a groin injury. He recorded 46 receptions for 515 yards and one touchdown.
Bateman appeared in six games in his second season. He had 15 receptions for 285 yards and two touchdowns. He missed Weeks 5-6 with a foot injury. He re-injured his foot in Week 8 and missed the remainder of the season.
Bateman appeared in 16 games in his third season. He had 32 receptions for 367 yards and one touchdown.
PREDICTION: They decline his 5th-year option because he’s not an elite wide receiver.
28th Pick: New Orleans Saints DL Payton Turner: $13,387,000
Turner appeared in five games during his rookie season. He had 12 tackles, three for a loss, three QB hits, and one sack. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 9.
Turner appeared in eight games in his second season. He had 16 tackles, five for a loss, three QB hits, and two sacks. He was a healthy scratch for Week 2, he missed Weeks 5-7 with a chest injury, Weeks 12-16 with an ankle injury, and a healthy scratch in Week 18.
Turner appeared in two games in his second season. He had one tackle and two QB hits. He missed Weeks 2-17 with turf toe.
PREDICTION: They decline his 5th-year option because he’s been inconsistent and injured throughout his tenure.
29th Pick: Green Bay Packers CB Eric Stokes: $12,472,000
Stokes had an incredible rookie season. He recorded 55 tackles, one interception, and 14 pass deflections. He allowed 48 receptions on 97 targets for 511 yards, three touchdowns, and a 71.3 passer rating.
Stokes appeared in nine games in his second season, recording 26 tackles. He allowed 20 receptions on 25 targets for 261 yards, one touchdown, and a 123.5 passer rating. He suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury and a meniscus injury in Week 9.
Stokes missed the first four games because of a hamstring injury in his third season. He re-injured his hamstring in Week 5 and missed the next seven games. He returned in Week 14 but was placed on season-ending injured reserve after Week 15 with the same hamstring issue. He recorded six tackles in three games and allowed six receptions on eight targets for 79 yards, three touchdowns, and a 145.3 passer rating.
PREDICTION: They decline his 5th-year option because he’s been inconsistent in their last two seasons and cannot stay healthy as of late.
30th Pick: Buffalo Bills DL Greg Rousseau: $13,387,000
Rousseau appeared in every game in his rookie season, recording 50 tackles, eight for a loss, ten QB hits, four sacks, one interception, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
Rousseau appeared in 13 games in his second season, recording 37 tackles, ten for a loss, 14 QB hits, eight sacks, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble. He missed three games because of an ankle injury.
Rousseau appeared in 16 games in his third season, recording 42 tackles, 12 for a loss, 18 QB hits, five sacks, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
PREDICTION: They exercise his 5th-year option because he is one of their best pass rushers on the team.
31st Pick: Baltimore Ravens LB Odafe Oweh: $13,251,000

Oweh appeared in every game in his second season, recording 43 tackles, seven for a loss, 11 QB hits, three sacks, and one forced fumble.
Oweh appeared in 13 games in his third season, recording 23 tackles, four for a loss, 12 QB hits, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. He missed Weeks 3-6 with an ankle injury.

32nd Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: $13,251,000

Tryon-Shoyinka recorded 40 tackles, six for a loss, 14 QB hits, four sacks, and two pass deflections in his second season.
