Though college football for this year has yet to start up, UVA football has already added VMI and NC State to its 2025 and 2026 non-conference game schedules. This announcement was made on Wednesday, May 15th.
This is slightly confusing, as NC State competes in the Atlantic Conference along with UVa, but due to the new NCAA rules, their bouts will not count towards conference standings. Here’s a look at the upcoming matchups.
UVA vs VMI
The matchups between the University of Virginia and Virginia Military Institute’s football teams are set to take place on November 23, 2030, and November 20, 2032. A lot can happen in before we even get to 2030, but in the past, it’s been a pretty lopsided affair, with VMI only winning 23 times against UVA, who has won 57 times against VMI.
Their last game occurred on September 21, 2013, where the final score was VMI 0, UVA 49. Based on their previous encounters, these two games should be easy wins for Virginia, but as these games as so far out, it’s hard to predict exactly what will happen.
UVA vs NC State
UVA is set to play NC State on September 6, 2025, and on a yet-to-be-determined date in 2026. The 2025 game will be in Raleigh, and the 2026 game will be in Charlottesville. The Virginia Cavaliers most recently faced off against the Wolfpack on September 22 of last year, where the Cavaliers lost 24 to 21.
Though it was a devastating loss, quarterback Anthony Colandrea had a rather impressive 271-yard, two-touchdown, 18-30 performance game, making this quite the debut for the young quarterback. Malik Washington also had an impressive outing, with 10 catches, 170 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. This makes him the third receiver in Virginia football history to have three consecutive 100-plus yard performances. Overall, the Wolfpack have 37 wins against Virginia throughout the history of their meetings, so it will be interesting to see how these games pan out. However, due to the realignment of the ACC, these meetings will not count towards their overall conference standings despite them still being in the same conference.
Though these dates seem far away, they are quite vital to UVA’s football program. Adding games against low-tier programs is valuable in the world of college football, and these non-conference games will help in regard to Virginia’s bowl eligibility. We’ll just have to wait and see how these games will play out.
