Confidence is critical, especially when playing at the top level of college football. Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders has always had confidence, with flashy on-field celebrations and a constant presence on social media. The polarizing Sanders has primarily backed up his talk with stellar on-the-field play, specifically as a passer. However, in the era of social media, sports fans are quick to knock a player down a peg when they fly too close to the sun.
On Monday, an old interview clip from Sanders resurfaced, with the quarterback claiming his game has aspects of seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and former dual-threat superstar Michael Vick. College football fans took aim at Sanders via Twitter (also known as X), roasting the signal-caller for self-comparing to two of the best players ever to step foot on the gridiron.
College Football Fans React: Shedeur Sanders Says He Has Michael Vick and Tom Brady In His Game

“It’s a mixture because I’m able to stay in the pocket and want to deliver the ball each and every play like Brady, but able to extend plays and, you know, if it’s not there, take it, like Vick. It just depends, and it’s funny. Whenever situations in the game occur, they say, ‘Hey, you got to be Vick tonight, you got to be Mike Vick tonight.’ I said alright, so then that’s when we bring our legs involved,” said Sanders in an interview before the 2023 season.

Although Sanders says he has been asked to use his legs to extend plays, the Jackson State transfer struggled as a rusher last year. The signal-caller was not only one of the most sacked quarterbacks in the nation last year, but he finished the year with negative rushing yards. However, as a passer, when presented with a clean pocket, Sanders thrived with the Buffaloes. He threw for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns against three picks last year. Meanwhile, he also tore apart defenses from 2021 to 2022 while with Jackson State, throwing for 70 touchdowns against 13 picks.
However, being one of the nation’s more polarizing quarterbacks and the son of former NFL megastar Deion Sanders leaves the passer open to criticism when comparing himself to two of the greatest signal-callers in the sport’s history. With the Sanders quote making its round on Twitter, many college football fans poked fun at the young passer.

Colorado Football: Headed to Big 12 Next Season

With the Pac-12 now debunked, Colorado football, alongside Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah, will join the Big 12 conference in 2024. Colorado initially competed in the Big 12 (also known as the Big 8 and Big 7) from 1948 to 2010, including winning their lone championship during the 1990 season. Coach Deion Sanders will look to lead the Buffaloes to their first winning season since 2016, with his son and quarterback Shedeur Sanders returning to lead the offense. Two-way star Travis Hunter will return to Boulder next fall after a 57-catch, 30-tackle season.
Meanwhile, in typical Deion Sanders fashion, Colorado replenished the roster via the transfer portal. According to Ourlads, the Buffs will have 12 new starters next season, 11 of whom came from the portal. Wide receivers Will Sheppard (Vanderbilt) and LaJohntay Wester (Florida Atlantic) are headlining the group. Sheppard has posted 152 receptions and 2,067 receiving yards in four seasons, while Wester is fresh off a 1,100-yard campaign.
