The New York Giants quarterback battle for the 2024 NFL training camp will be one of the biggest storylines. There are a lot of questions that will have to be answered in that position. Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Nathan Rourke, and Tommy DeVito will be the quarterbacks to watch out for during training camp.
The starting spot and the backup spot will be up for grabs. Who knows what head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are thinking at this moment. During the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Giants tried to do everything in trading for the third overall pick with the New England Patriots to draft quarterback Drake Maye from North Carolina but failed to do so.
Even had they drafted Maye, there still would be questions as to who would be the starting quarterback entering the 2024 season. There is a lot that is at stake entering the season.
Connor Hughes of SNY Has a Bold Take About the State of the New York Giants Quarterback Battle
Hughes of SNY gave an interesting update about the New York Giants starting quarterback battle. He wrote:
“Big Blue will head into camp with Lock behind Jones. The whispers are getting louder that the quarterbacking depth chart is written in pencil, though. (Head coach Brian) Daboll will play the player he believes gives the Giants the best chance. Understandable, considering what might happen if things go poorly.”
When training camp starts, a lot of people will be dialed into the quarterback battle. It will be interesting to see which quarterback plays better with the first unit. What is also important is that wide receiver Malik Nabers will need to develop chemistry with one of them in a hurry.
There were times last season when people felt that the New York Giants were better with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback than Daniel Jones. Tommy DeVito, who became a fan favorite for the Giants during the NFL season, also won more games than Daniel Jones did last season. DeVito had to start a few games because Taylor also got hurt in Week 8 against the New York Jets.
Daniel Jones was given a four-year $160 million extension last offseason and it turned out to being a mistake. Jones had his season end in Week 9 with a Torn ACL against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones has had issues with his neck also in the past.
Drew Lock was the backup quarterback for Geno Smith with the Seattle Seahawks last season. He had to start a couple of games for Seattle last season because of Smith being injured. Lock came over to the New York Giants in the offseason because of the chance to win the starting quarterback job outright in training camp. These Lock and Jones stories will continue to go on all summer long.
