The New York Giants had a lot of people attend Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s pro day on Friday. According to sources to NFL Network’s Albert Breer, Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown and quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney were going, along with Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski.
Interestingly, they both were in attendance. The Giants own the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the Minnesota Vikings will have the 11th and the 23rd picks in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. New York may not be able to stay in the sixth spot in the draft if they went to select McCarthy or someone else.
With the Washington Commanders, the Chicago Bears, and the New England Patriots most likely taking a quarterback, the Giants may be going to need to trade up to the fourth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft if they are going to draft J.J. McCarthy or another quarterback.
The Minnesota Vikings are looking to jump the Giants for a quarterback. Minnesota has Sam Darnold as its current starting quarterback for next season and New York has many questions at the position. Daniel Jones is projected to be the starter for now, but is it possible that he is not ready for next season because of injuries?
That is why they brought in Drew Lock. A lot can happen between now and next month with everything.
The New York Giants Attending J.J. McCarthy’s Pro Day Is Not a Surprise At All
The Giants front office members and coaching staff, along with some of the Vikings and other teams as well attending his Pro Day at Michigan, is not a surprise because he has been climbing up draft boards. New York has been linked to potentially drafting him in the 2024 NFL Draft for quite some time now.
It feels like it is going to be a race between the Vikings and the New York Giants to draft him. It is also possible that the Giants may not draft him and may want to take a wide receiver instead with the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to continue building their football team.
There seems to be a lot of unknown what the New York Giants will be doing when the NFL Draft comes. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are not tipping their hands by any means. There are also possibilities that quarterback Drake Maye or wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could slip to them with the sixth selection.
J.J. McCarthy won a lot of games in college. Just because you win a lot in college, doesn’t mean it will translate to the NFL. McCarthy is only 21 years old and has a lot of room to grow. He won the National Championship last season at Michigan and also made it to the playoffs the season before.
