The New England Patriots reportedly had a few members of their staff in attendance at the Texas pro day yesterday according to Jim Nagy, who is the executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Texas has some very explosive offensive players, which is exactly what New England needs for 2024 and beyond. Texas wide receivers, Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell, are both very impressive Draft prospects. They both are incredibly explosive, fast, and polished route runners. Not to mention, Worthy recently set the NFL Scouting Combine record for the fastest forty yard dash ever, at 4.21 seconds. The Texas playmakers are catching the eyes of many NFL teams, and could end up becoming some of the top pass catchers in the league.
According to Tony Pauline, the New England Patriots met with Xavier Worthy at the Texas pro day, which should be rather exciting for fans of the team. New England has lacked explosive playmakers recently, and by meeting with top prospects, they are showing the fans they are serious about turning around the organization. A player like Worthy could be exactly what they need. A seriously elite athlete, with all the tools needed to make it at the next level. Unfortunately, Worthy may not be available by the time New England is picking in the second round. Worthy is expected to be a late first round pick, meaning the Patriots would likely have to trade up from pick thirty four. If they truly believe that Worthy can be an important piece for the future, then I expect the Patriots to be very aggressive in trying to move around the Draft board.
New England hasn’t made the big splash signing in Free Agency that many fans had hoped for, so if they can secure a future star early in the Draft, it will set them up for a brighter future. By drafting somebody like Xavier Worthy, the Patriots could add an explosive piece to a very mediocre offense. This would be even more valuable, if they decide to draft a rookie quarterback at pick number three. Giving their future franchise quarterback a weapon that he can develop and grow with. If all of this works out, we could see a new dynamic duo in the AFC East, creating an absolutely electric division, between the Bills, Jets, Dolphins, and newly rebuilt New England Patriots.
How aggressive will the New England Patriots be when the Draft rolls around?
The Patriots have quite a few different options they could explore when the NFL Draft finally rolls around. It is very likely that they will select a quarterback at third overall, but what else could they do to shock the NFL world on Draft night? They could take a huge swing at Xavier Worthy, by trading some future picks to get back in the first round from where they sit at pick thirty four. By doing this, they will show how serious they are about creating a dynamic offense. Patriots Director of Scouting, Eliot Wolf, spoke at the NFL Scouting Combine and talked about weaponizing the offense. If they decide to take LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels at number three, and trade back into the first to select Xavier Worthy, they would be doing exactly that. What better way to weaponize an offense than select the best athlete at the quarterback position, and pairing him with the fastest player at the wide receiver position for years to come.
