Drake Maye hopes to solidify his place among the top five picks in the 2024 NFL Draft with his Pro Day workout at UNC.
Drake Maye has been the punching bag of the 2024 quarterback draft class. Not because he has done anything wrong but because other names continue to move ahead of his. After a magnificent 2022 season, his 2023 season left question marks that have yet to be answered.
Maye hopes to impress teams and answer some of those questions at the University of North Carolina’s Pro Day today.
Maye Measurements
Drake measures in at 6’4 and 223 pounds. He is your “prototypical” quarterback size. NFL teams will love his size and strength.
NorthCarolina QB Drake Maye’s key measurements per @CharlesRobinson:

Drake Maye Throws Missles
Maye can sling it. There is no denying that. Completing every throw shouldn’t be a question for Maye, but forcing the issue is. He can only show so much during the scripted Pro Day workout, but he did not hide his ability to throw it deep.

Stood behind Drake Maye the entire throwing session. A few errant throws early on, but he settled in as it went on. Ball comes out of his hand with plenty of velocity. pic.twitter.com/TnqaNo41tf

The arm-talent, on the move without having his base set, is absolutely RIDICULOUS here by Drake Maye😱 pic.twitter.com/l2xU3FvMV3

Maye did not shy away from tossing it long today. He had all his deep throws back-to-back, and it was impressive to watch.

One of Drake’s highlights was avoiding pressure and then throwing a bomb to the endzone.
Drake Maye casually throwing that ball 65 yards on a dime at his pro day. WR never broke stride.
Typical. The man was accurate on 21 of 26 deep ball attemps in the 11 games I graded this year. pic.twitter.com/K5qSGTfClV

A Couple Miscues
Maye had a couple of miscues, like the airmailed pass below. Out of 74 throws, he had 69 completions. Of the 5 incompletions, 3 were true misthrows.

Mack Brown, head coach at UNC, speaks to the caliber of quarterbacks an NFL team gets when they draft Drake.

Maye shows confidence in his arm, a skill many NFL teams seek. A few months ago, he was the consensus second-overall pick to USC quarterback Caleb Williams, but after NFL media and executives fell in love with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, his draft stock is in question.
