A new report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter dispels the notion that Halas Hall unanimously agrees that the Chicago Bears should trade Justin Fields and draft top rookie prospect quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Some in the Bears’ brass want to keep H1M.
The Chicago Bears had a plan to shop their QB
Last week at the NFL Combine, Bears general manager Ryan Poles hinted he was going to try to trade Fields before free agency. However, Fields’ trade value tanked during the week as more veteran quarterbacks readied to head into free agency.
Now, the Bears could be stuck with Fields through the draft, and some in Chicago are fine with that.
Not everyone at Halas Hall is on board
Per Schefter’s quote posted by Sky Skruse with Bears Wire, “some” people in the organization want Fields back in 2024:
“I think there are people within the organization that would like to see him [Justin Fields] stay there too, which is one more wrench to throw in there.”
“The #Bears said at the combine they’d like to get a deal [for Justin Fields] in place by the time the new league year opens which is one week from today which means the #Bears are on the clock.” 💥 🔥

Is Adam Schefter referring to Kevin Warren?
Per an interview with WGN 9 last month, Bears President Kevin Warren said he supports Fields.
“I’m a supporter of Justin because I got a chance to work with him when I was Commissioner of the Big Ten conference,” Warren said. “He is incredibly talented. He is smart. He works hard. And he wants to be a great NFL football player. And now he just needs to make sure he has the support around him. He’s working hard. I would love to see him this offseason and make sure he’s totally healthy going into the season next year.”
Warren praised Fields for having several marketable skills and said he was glad Fields was on the Bears.
“Justin has a rare combination of intelligence, of size, of strength and speed,” Warren said. “You forget how big of a man he is until you’re up on him. He’s not a small man. I just think every year he’s going to continually get better.”
One problem with Warren’s synopsis: Not many teams are buying the sales pitch. There isn’t a robust market for Fields before free agency. And that should be an even bigger sign for the Bears brass to get on board with the idea they need to part ways with Fields and draft Williams.
