The Colorado Buffaloes had a 9-3 record during the 2024 college football regular season. Colorado did not win the BIG12 Conference, but they were one of the most polarizing teams in college football because of quarterback Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.

Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft and Hunter was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. It will be a new era of Buffaloes football under head coach Deion Sanders for the 2025 college football season. Colorado could be good, but there is a chance that they have a forgettable season.
Colorado Buffaloes Football Program Faces Worst-Case Scenario With Shedeur Sanders Out the Door

Kaidon Salter or Julian Lewis will be the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes in 2025. It will be interesting to see how they will perform under center with Sanders no longer around. Not only that, Hunter is not there either. Shehan Jeyarajah of CBS Sports listed one best-case and worst-case scenario for each BIG12 Conference team entering the 2025 college football season.
He thinks that the best-case scenario for this football program will be for Colorado to finish 8-4. Jeyarajah thinks that their worst-case scenario is for them to finish with a 5-7 record during the 2025 college football season. He said,
“The last two years at Colorado have been built around sensational talents Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. With the pair gone, does Colorado have the dynamic talent to keep things rolling? There’s no guarantee Salter or Lewis can keep up the production, especially with a shaky offensive line. There are landmines all over the schedule. “
If the Buffaloes finish under .500 and also miss a bowl game, will Sanders also leave Colorado’s football program, or will he stick around for another year? There will be a lot of questions about this football program with Sanders gone as the starting quarterback. Shedeur is currently in a four-quarterback battle with the Browns in Cleveland, Ohio.
As for Hunter, he is going to be the starting wide receiver for the Jaguars and try and help revive quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s career as well. A lot of talented players will be gone from Colorado. It is now up to Deion to keep this program relevant, otherwise Colorado could be a doormat in the BIG12 Conference in 2025 once again.
