There is a lot riding on the LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly for the 2025 college football season. After a promising start in 2024, a lot of those playoff hopes came crashing down.
This will be Kelly’s fourth season with the football program and there is no doubt that he is on the hot seat. Kelly may have the hottest seat out of any SEC football coach entering the 2025 season. The Tigers have to make the playoffs or there is a chance that LSU is looking for a new head coach.
CBS Sports Thinks That LSU Tigers Could Fire Brian Kelly If Worst Case Scenario Hits the Team
There is a ton of talent on LSU’s roster entering the 2025 season. Some people believe that the Tigers could be one of the few SEC teams to make the playoffs. However, there is a worst-case scenario that could be starring this program in the face.
Brad Crawford of CBS Sports thinks that the worst-case scenario for this program for the 2025 season will be the Tigers finishing with a 6-6 record. Crawford said,
“It’s going to take more than OxiClean to remove the stain of the Tigers’ five consecutive losses in season openers. They’ll try to snap it this year at Clemson inside the other Death Valley. The preseason favorites in the ACC could make it ugly for the Tigers if Cade Klubnik is on. Trips to Alabama and Oklahoma in November are critical as well. If the Tigers do finish .500, that’s going to create a major job vacancy in the SEC. Kelly knows it given the resources pushed toward this year’s team.”
LSU has to win Week 1 on the road against Clemson. If the Tigers can win that matchup, it is going to go a long way for them in 2025. If not, it will be the fourth straight season that LSU loses a Week 1 game and there will be many questions about Kelly as the head coach.
A lot will be telling for them when they host the Florida Gators on September 13 at home. If LSU loses that game and starts the season 1-2 and there is a world where that occurs, the boosters better start looking for its next head coach. There is no excuse for the Tigers to massively underperform once again in 2025. If Kelly is chased out of town, it will be interesting to see who the next head coach of that football program would be.
