The Washington Commanders began a new era during the 2024 offseason. The Commanders made significant moves for the future, hiring Adam Peters as their general manager, Dan Quinn as their head coach, and drafting 2023 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels 2nd overall.

Not only did the Commanders hire a new front office, a coaching staff, and a quarterback, but they also sought to improve their offensive line, which allowed 65 sacks (T-2nd) and ranked 24th in PFF’s offensive line ranking last season. They signed left guard Nick Allegretti from the Chiefs and center Tyler Biadasz from the Cowboys and drafted left tackle Brandon Coleman 67th overall. On top of that, their best offensive lineman is back for another season.

Samuel Cosmi entered the final year of his 4-year, $6,625,568 rookie contract he signed in 2021. He has a base salary of $3.116 million and a cap hit of $3,660,649 per Spotrac for the 2024 season. He is eligible for a contract extension since he completed his third year in the NFL last season.

Cosmi is coming off his best season, where he started every game, played every snap, and thrived at right guard, his new position. He had 31 pressures, 26 hurries, four hits, one sack allowed, four penalties, a 74.0 pass block grade, an 80.9 run block grade, and an 80.6 PFF grade.

He will be part of their long-term plans.

The Commanders signed Samuel Cosmi to a 4-year extension. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cosmi signed a $74 million contract extension with $45 million guaranteed, and $18.5 million APY. This extension makes him the third-highest-paid right guard in the NFL (in terms of APY), behind Chris Lindstrom’s $20.5 million APY and Robert Hunt’s $20 million APY, per Over The Cap.

“This is a great day for the Washington Commanders. We’re excited to have reached an agreement on a contract extension with Sam Cosmi. Sam has bought into the vision that DQ and I have had for this team since day one,” said General Manager Adam Peters.

“He is a pillar of our offensive line and we believe that Sam’s best playing days are ahead. Sam is a great leader and teammate and we’re excited that he will be a member of our team for years to come. I want to thank Sam’s representatives Ryan Tollner, Chase Callahan and Richard Buffum for their professionalism and partnership in getting this deal done.

“I’d also like to thank Brandon Sosna and Rob Rogers for their tireless work in getting this extension completed. It was impressive to see both sides work so well together. On behalf of the entire Commanders organization, I’d like to congratulate Sam, his wife Blair, and their daughter Clara on this special day.”
