The Washington Commanders will be without a starting wide receiver on Sunday against the New England Patriots. Per Adam Schefter, the Commanders have ruled out wideout Curtis Samuel in Week 9.
Samuel has started five of eight games this season and is in his third year with the Commanders. The Ohio State product has dealt with a toe injury this week that will keep him sidelined on Sunday.
Washington Commanders Wide Receiver Curtis Samuel: Reliable Option OUT Sunday
Curtis Samuel has recorded 35 receptions this season, the second most on the Washington Commanders. He has gone for 332 receiving yards and two touchdowns while rushing four times for 20 yards and one score. Samuel played well for the Commanders in 2022, tallying 843 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns. His best season came in 2020, his final with the Carolina Panthers, catching 77 passes for 851 yards and three touchdowns. The former second-round pick has been a reliable target for Sam Howell this season.
Sam Howell to Lean on Jahan Dotson and Terry McLaurin?
Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell has played well this season, throwing for 2,146 yards and 13 touchdowns against eight picks in eight games. However, Sunday will mark his first game without Curtis Samuel as part of the receiving core. However, Howell will again operate with Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson as his top options.
McLaurin has posted 42 receptions for 495 yards and two touchdowns. The one-time Pro-Bowler is vying for his fourth straight 1,000-yard season. Meanwhile, Dotson had 30 receptions for 291 yards and two touchdowns. The former first-round pick is fresh off his best game of the season, catching eight passes for 108 yards and one score.
