The rumor mill goes on with the Ohio State Buckeyes…
Much talk recently has concerned Mike Vrabel’s future with the Tennessee Titans as head coach. But not in the way head coach talk usually goes. Instead of Vrabel being on the hot seat after a 3-7 start to the season, coming off a 34-14 loss to AFC South rivals, Jacksonville Jaguars, people are seeing it the other way round:
Will Mike Vrabel force his way out of this otherwise seemingly dysfunctional Tennessee franchise?
There have rumours swirling the Twittosphere about Vrabel taking over for Bill Belichick at the New England Patriots (where Vrabel won a Super Bowl in his playing days as a linebacker) – as the Patriots seem to be falling further and further away from the championship standards Belichick has set for over 2 decades.
Yet, this is not the only place that Vrabel has been linked to. On the back of a third consecutive loss to ultra – rivals, Michigan, Ohio State head coach, Ryan Day, is officially feeling his seat get warmer already.
And for those who did not know, Mike Vrabel was a 2 x First Team All-American at…Ohio State. So fans are, understandably, putting the dots together.
So Is Mike Vrabel Going To Replace Ryan Day At Ohio State?
Well, there are a multitude of fans, and probably others inside the Buckeyes’ organization who would be very happy with this outcome.
However, according to long time NFL insider, Diana Russini, this is unlikely to come to fruition any time soon.
Sorry Buckeyes.
You can cross Mike Vrabel off your list of coach candidates for Ohio State. Not only is he staying in the NFL, the Titans want him to be their head coach for years to come. 👇🏻https://t.co/5poKrKlZAA— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) November 25, 2023
At this point, especially mid-season NFL teams will say whatever to avoid distractions, even if there team is pretty far out of the playoff’s reach, as the Titans are – although in the uber-volatile AFC South, anything can happen.
So, even if it looks like the Tennessee ownership are shutting down the possibility of this eventuality, I would certainly not rule this out just quite yet.
