Star Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller dropped some major news regarding his injury status ahead of the 2023 regular season. The Bills placed Miller on the PUP list last week. He underwent surgery to repair his right ACL last season.
Because the Bills placed Miller on the PUP list, the All-Pro defender will miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season. Nearly a quarter of the regular season is a lot of time to miss, and many fans and pundits thought Miller was still having issues when the Bills made that decision.
Buffalo Bills: Von Miller says staying on PUP list wasn’t his decision
However, the Bills might have done it for precautionary reasons. According to Garafolo with the NFL Network, Miller said his knee was cleared before the Bills made the decision to keep him on the PUP list. Miller said he understands why the team made the decision and that he isn’t sure he will be back in Week 5.
(Week 5 is the first week Miller would be eligible to return.)
#Bills’ Von Miller says his knee was cleared before the deadline to activate him off PUP but there were several steps left to be ready for Week 1. Says it wasn’t his decision to stay on PUP but understands why it was made. Isn’t sure if he’ll be back Week 5 when eligible.

That’s huge news coming from Miller. The Bills seem more worried about ensuring Miller doesn’t rush back from rehab for the regular season. The team is taking a chance in the early part of the regular season by playing without Miller, hoping that he will be healthier for a postseason run.
For Bills fans thinking he’d be back for Week 5, that doesn’t seem like a guarantee after Miller’s comments.
