The 2025 NFL season carries major implications for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ future. With Aaron Rodgers now at the helm, the team hopes to extend its run of consecutive winning campaigns. Recently, a notable free agent voiced his desire to sign with Pittsburgh, stating why he believes he’d be a good fit for the organization.

Former Bengals and Titans wide receiver Tyler Boyd recently shared his desire to join the Pittsburgh Steelers. A native of Pittsburgh and a standout at the University of Pittsburgh, Boyd said he hopes to continue his NFL career in his hometown after spending nine seasons in the league.
“Absolutely,” Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now on Saturday, according to Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports. “You know, all my family is here. I’d be able to have the majority of them be able to support me.”
Will Tyler Boyd join the Steelers?

Boyd had already shown interest in joining the Steelers last year after spending eight seasons with the Bengals, but he ultimately signed with the Titans. Now, he’s once again voicing his desire to return home. He also credited Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin for building a strong connection with him during his time at Pitt.
“I’m real cool with [coach Mike] Tomlin,” said the 30-year-old. “He’s always been a good person. . . . When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship. After practice, I’d walk over there, talk to [Antonio Brown] and those guys, talk to Tomlin, and he’d just pick at different things, where I could get better and get some guidance. I think we had a great friendship.”

The Steelers may benefit from adding a seasoned wideout, especially after dealing George Pickens to the Cowboys in May. Boyd, who posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019, is coming off a quieter year with the Titans, where he recorded 39 receptions for 390 yards across 16 games.
The Steelers explored a potential trade for Jonnu Smith from the Dolphins but chose not to move forward. Signing a free agent like Tyler Boyd may offer a more practical solution. If Boyd joins the Steelers, building chemistry with Aaron Rodgers will be key. The veteran quarterback is known for his direct communication style with receivers, something Steelers wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni fully supports.
