Tyler Booker’s selection by the Dallas Cowboys with their No. 12 in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft was already explained by the team owner, Jerry Jones days before the event. Jones spoke to Jon Machota from The Athletic, giving his reason as to why the Cowboys decided to go with an offensive guard and not a running back.
Booker is coming to the Cowboys after playing college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide as an offensive guard. Booker poses a huge threat on the field, especially with his Herculean physique. Before the Cowboys announced that they were going with Booker, it was heavily hinted that the team will be going with Omarion Hampton, a running back from the North Carolina Tar Heels.
“We’ve had some success loading it up with top picks in the offensive line. … I don’t think running back was as significant (of an issue) last year…I think it was our offensive line that was the bigger impact on the running back situation.” Jerry Jones said about the team trying to improve their offensive line,, as reported by Jon Machota from his X account.

Jerry Jones is known for his unconventional style of managing his team. But, it is also true that the man has been managing the Dallas Cowboys since 1989 and definitely knows a thing or two about the game. Jones picking Tyler Booker was hailed as ‘smart’ by numerous NFL analysts. However, there were also many social media users calling for his resignation, deeming the move as disastrous for the team.
