The Los Angeles Rams season is now over after losing to the Detroit Lions in the best game of the weekend so far with a final score of 24-23. This was a game that a few strange calls including a huge missed call on the Rams at the end of the first half where the refs missed a neutral zone infraction and called a false start instead.
There where numerous questionable calls for both teams throughout the game but now, head coach Sean McVay is getting ripped in the media for some of his comments after the loss against Detroit. The Lions won their first playoff game in 32 years and it was deserving. They grinded the game out and although there were missed calls, both teams had to deal with that.
Mcvay was quoted after the game taking a subtle shot at the officiating of the game while not trying to get into too much trouble. He was quoted saying:
“I don’t want to say anything now that gets me in trouble. I don’t want to take away the credit. Hats off to the Lions.”
McVay was taking away from what the Lions did by saying that and most of the NFL media was letting him have it as there were very questionable calls for both teams.
Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay Gets Ripped By Fans
Many fans did not like what McVay had to say after the game as there was not blatant calls against the Rams and the Lions could be complaining about the officiating just as much. To lose in a close game and subtly mentioned the officiating is not a thing that a winner does, and it is surprising that the Super Bowl winning coach would get up there and say that.
Fans on X were ripping the coach with one saying:
“Sean McVay can never complain about the refs. GTFO,” one fan wrote.
Another fan said:
“The refs essentially took 3 or 7 points off the board for Detroit because they don’t know what false starts are. The officiating was bad for both sides.”
“This is incredibly soft, not surprised one bit by it though”
The fans were not holding back on the coach as another fan was quoted saying:
“Garbage officiating got you to your first Super Bowl. I’d keep my mouth shut if I were you, coach”
Maybe this game meant a bit more with Jared Goff taking down his former team, and McVay had a lot to prove after trading the quarterback to Detroit. Either way it is not the best look for the coach as the Rams now enter the off season. They have a lot to look forward too with young star Puka Nacua, and Matthew Stafford looked as good as ever.
