Top 5 Cornerbacks
The college season is right around the corner and most of us know what to expect come the 2023 NFL Draft. Here are some names that are expected to show and prove the hype that surrounds them is accurate.
DJ Turner
DJ Turner will help Michigan regain dominance in the Big Ten this season. Turners most notable game, 8 tackles in an always heated match up against Ohio State. SEVEN of those tackles were solo. Not to mention, a couple PBU’s against CJ Stroud and that NFL bound receiving core. ALL in the same contest! Michigan will need Turner to step it up evermore in order to add to Michigans college football playoff hopes.
Antonio Johnson
Antonio Johnson started in all 12 games last season. With his leadership ability, he ended the season second on the team with 79 total tackles. Known for his coverage as well, Johnson has five breakups last season and is fourth among his teammates with 8.5 tackles for loss. What NFL scouts rave about most is his aggressive tacking ability. Johnson recorded his current career and team high, 15 tackles, against Mississippi State.
Keele Ringo
The Georgia Bulldogs are top dogs right now and Keele Ringo is the epitome of what is to come. Ringo showed up and show out in the National Championship against Alabama. Intercepting Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young for a game sealing pick six. 79 yards he ran to give the Bulldogs the upset! The sky is the limit for this young and talented secondary headed into fall camp.
Cam Smith
This heat seeking missile of a player is considered the second best returning cornerback in college football for 2022, according to ProFootballFocus. Cam Smith is also pre-season first-team All-American, according to the Walter Camp Foundation. When you watch Cam, he runs with “know how” and confidence when he sees the ball in the air. With NFL caliber change of direction, Smith doesn’t miss many open field tackles. Although he may only five career interceptions in 22 games, including 10 starts, teams avoid him if they can.
Eli Ricks
By learning under Derek Stingley Jr. last season, Eli Ricks is more than ready to take over as the Crimson Tide main man after transferring from LSU. As a true freshman last season, Ricks started in seven games and still ended the season as the leader in interceptions on his previous squad. Oh and he returned two for touchdowns! This defensive back is the real deal when it comes to the prototypical cover corner NFL scouts get in line for. Expect Eli to hear his named called as a first round pick when his college career has met its end.
