Former college football coach Tommy Tuberville has been hitting the campaign hard for President Donald Trump and his latest round of tariffs. In an op-ed this week, the Alabama senator wrote that he believed the tariffs would help make America great again.
Tuberville thinks that the high tariffs will discourage needless international trade. He believes that domestic production will ramp up as prices of goods from other countries become unaffordable.
“America has some of the best and brightest manufacturers, producers, farmers, and businesses,” Tuberville wrote in the op-ed at yellowhammer.com. “We shouldn’t be going to other countries for products we can make right here at home.”
Former college football coach Tommy Tuberville: No pain, no gain

While that isn’t an encouraging thought for many of the Americans who have been recently laid off, Tuberville told Fox Business that the “pain” people are going through being unable to purchase goods and services for their families is sort of like what football players go through in training camp.
“No pain, no gain — that’s what we used to tell our football players,” Tuberville said via Howard Koplowitz of al.com. “There’s going to be some pain with tariffs, but tariffs got us back as the strongest economy in the world when President Trump was in (office) the first time. He knows what he’s doing.”
Joe Biden to blame?

Tuberville took a shot at Democrats for not having appropriate answers and for how they handled the economy when Joe Biden was President.
“Democrats, get out of the way, shut up. You have no answers, you didn’t do anything right in the last four years with Joe Biden,” Tuberville said.
