REPORT – Ex-Auburn Football Coach Tommy Tuberville Pens Title IX-Centric Op-Ed Ahead of Integral 2024 Summer Olympic Games

Before his political career, Tommy Tuberville coached college football for nearly 40 years, highlighted by his ten-year run with Auburn football. Tuberville posted a 159-99 record as a college head coach, winning AP Coach of the Year in 2004 after leading Auburn to a sparkling 13-0 record. Tuberville has since served as the Alabama representative in the U.S. Senate since 2020, with many of his moves and opinions being met with harsh criticism.

On Friday, Tuberville penned a letter to Outkick about the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris and the potential inclusion of biological males participating in female-centric events. Tuberville continues to fight for Title IX and women’s rights in sports, legislation he firmly believes the Biden-Harris campaign is openly destroying.

“Unfortunately, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are willing to sacrifice all of this progress at the altar of woke ideology,” said Tuberville in an open letter to Outkick surrounding the effectiveness of Title IX. In 1972, Title IX passed into U.S. law, prohibiting discrimination based on gender in any school or any other education program that obtains funding from the federal government. However, in 2021, President Joe Biden issued an Executive Order furthering the scope of Title IX, “Guaranteeing an Educational Environment Free From Discrimination on the Basis of Sex, Including Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity.”

Title IX is one of the most consequential bills to come from Congress.

Since then, women’s sports have flourished.

    — Coach Tommy Tuberville (@SenTuberville) July 26, 2024

“Sadly, this woke ideology isn’t confined to our country. The same thing is occurring on the international stage with the Olympics. In January, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued new guidelines that stressed its commitment to “foster gender equality and inclusion.” As a result, several sports’ governing bodies have changed their rules to allow men into women’s sports.”

Tuberville has fought against any fundamental changes to Title IX since his induction to the U.S. Senate in 2020. The former Auburn football bench boss, who owned an 85-40 record while leading the Tigers, introduced the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act to have athletes “recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”

Tuberville continued, putting the Olympic governing body on blast for potentially allowing biological males to compete in sports with women, specifically boxing. “IOC President Thomas Bach and the entire IOC Executive Board should be utterly ashamed of themselves for putting female athletes at risk like this.”

Tommy Tuberville’s tenure as a U.S. Senator has largely been clouded in criticism. In 2022, he put a hold on military nominations over “illegal expansion of DoD authority and gross misuse of taxpayer dollars” for abortions. The hold kept the Marines vacant of commandant for the first time in over 200 years. Tuberville also came under fire for his comments regarding white nationalists as “Americans.”

Before his political days, Tuberville was a college football head coach, finishing most of his success with Auburn football. Tuberville won at least eight games seven times while leading the Tigers to five bowl-game victories. From 2004 to 2007, Auburn went 42-9, winning the Sugar Bowl in 2004 and the Cotton Bowl in 2006.
