Former seven-time Super Bowl champion and Fox Sports analyst Tom Brady couldn’t hide his awe at Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson after their 41-38 overtime win against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday.
Lamar Jackson put his hat in the ring for this year’s MVP contention once more with his groundbreaking quarterback performance. The two-time and reigning MVP helped his team bounce back from a 10-point lead by their opponent by completing 26 of his 42 pass attempts for 348 yards, scoring four touchdowns, and rushing for 55 yards on 12 carries. Their win propelled the Ravens to the top of the AFC North standings.
Tom Brady put Jackson on the top of his “3 Stars of the Week” list after the quarterback’s superb showing.
“Lamar was a human highlight reel. What an incredible overtime win over the Bengals. He’s been unbelievable this season,” Brady said.
The NFL legend also shared an anecdote about Jackson.
“This one record that I would have no chance to ever complete—he’s the first player in history to have 300 pass yards, 50 rush yards, and four touchdowns in multiple games. Truly incredible.”
Tom Brady finished his career with 132 games with at least 300 passing yards and 41 games with four or more passing touchdowns, including playoffs. He never had a 50-rushing-yard game.
In 2006, in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tom Brady went past the 30-yard mark as a rusher—the first and only time in his career—finishing with 31 yards on 10 carries.
Tom Brady broke NFL records with the Patriots
Like Tom Brady mentioned, Lamar Jackson became the first quarterback in NFL history to finish a game with over 300 passing yards, over 50 rushing yards, and over four passing touchdowns. While the NFL legend admitted to being unable to break Jackson’s record, he himself had set and broken numerous records while was active in the NFL.
Brady, who was enshrined in the Patriots Hall of Fame in June, was a “host with the most.” CBS Boston compiled his accomplishments over his 20-year career with New England as well as his final three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tom Brady held the following records with the Patriots: the most regular-season wins (219), most games played (285), most passing yards (74,571), most passing touchdowns (541), most passing yards per game (261.7), most completions (6,377), among others.
The five-time Super Bowl MVP was also a three-time league MVP, all honors he received while he was with the Patriots.
