Titans’ wide receiver Treylon Burks headed into the 2023 season with plenty of offseason hype fueling him.
Then, in joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings, a knee injury set him back. Then, later in the season, Burks suffered a concussion which resulted in him being carted off of the field in a Thursday night matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After exiting concussion protocol in time to practice for the late-season home matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, Burks had an underwhelming end to the season. In the 2023 season as a whole, Burks recorded 16 catches, 221 yards, and zero touchdowns. Since being drafted by the Titans in 2022, Burks has recorded 49 catches for 665 yards and one touchdown. Injuries have plagued Burks in his short career and he is looking to bounce back in 2024.
Titans’ Wide receiver’s Mindset heading into 2024
“The knee injury was probably the hardest one for me, just because of how hard I had trained throughout the offseason,” Burks said at the end of the year. “But having faith in God, my wife, family, teammates, it made it a lot easier for me to deal with it.”
Burks has a lot to work for, only having recorded one touchdown catch in his two-year NFL career but his mindset is strong going into 2024.
“Go in, make sure I am taking care of my body, and being on top of the details,” Burks said. “I want to come back, and keep it rolling.”
Will Levis prime to get Burks back to Razorback form?
There is a lot to look forward to going into 2024 for Treylon Burks and the Titans. The way he has performed has been underwhelming in terms of what fans expected coming out of the draft but with Will Levis coming off of his rookie year with plenty of potential, it could be just what the doctor ordered for Treylon Burks.
Will Levis has shown NFL fans that he has tremendous arm strength and a desire for big plays. Just look at what he did in his first start in the 2023 season.
In a game at home in late October against the Atlanta Falcons, Levis went 19 for 29, 238 yards, and four touchdowns with his longest throw being a 61-yard touchdown pass to Deandre Hopkins. In that game, he became the second all time quarterback to throw four touchdowns in his first NFL start with the other being former Titans quarterback, Marcus Mariota.
As NFL fans, who have watched Burks on the Titans, have seen, he loves the deep ball and the big plays. Even though the list is short when looking for the ones he has made, he is always running long routes looking for massive gains. With Levis bringing his tremendous talent to the Titans along with Burks looking to bounce back, it could be the perfect recipe for both players in the 2024 season.
GM Ran Carthon and new head coach Brian Callahan speak on Burks
At the NFL combine last week, both Ran Carthon and Brian Callahan were asked about Burks.
“The injury thing, the concussion thing, was a real deal,” Carthon said of Burks. “I think we all saw that from the Pittsburgh game. Those are the kinds of things you can’t really prevent. But I do know Treylon is off this offseason, training with D-Hop (DeAndre Hopkins) and some other pros around the league, which I think will be good for him to see how other pros prepare and get ready for the season, so he can add that to his game.”
Head coach Brian Callahan spoke about Burks and his potential.
“I do like some of the traits that Treylon has shown on tape,” Callahan said. “There’s some things and I’m excited to work with. And then he’s got to do his part when it comes down to taking care of yourself and making sure he’s ready to roll when we start. But, (Treylon is a) talented player, and one that’s got some development to go. … I’m excited about what Treylon could bring for us once he comes in the building.”
If all goes right, Burks is primed for a breakout season in 2024.
