The New York Giants surprised a lot of people when they traded up from the 34th pick to the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select quarterback Jaxson Dart from the Ole Miss Rebels. It was not a secret on draft night that the Giants were trying to trade back into the first-round of the 2025 NFL Draft after drafting Abdul Carter third overall.

It appears as if the Giants are finally starting to build its foundation at the helm with general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll despite all of the criticism they have faced. There has been a lot of placed on them and owner John Mara, but it appears as if New York could head back on track after a 3-14 2024 NFL season. What did an NFL insider have to say about the Giants trading back into the first round for Dart?
NFL Insider Talks About the New York Giants Trading Up For Quarterback Jaxson Dart

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN talked about each team in the NFL about what is next for them after the 2025 NFL Draft. Some of the key intel as to why New York decided to draft Dart in the 2025 NFL Draft is because,
“The Giants said they settled on Jaxson Dart after the Monday meetings of draft week. “At that point he had checked all the boxes,” a team source said of the Ole Miss prospect. They also decided they wouldn’t trade above Pittsburgh, banking on the Steelers opting for defense at No. 21.
And in talking to teams in the 20s about a trade up, the Giants made clear they would not part with the No. 65 pick. Houston was comfortable with that.
While the Giants worked out Shedeur Sanders the week before the draft, Sanders sensed much earlier that New York probably wasn’t in the cards for him. Sanders openly acknowledged during the predraft process that he didn’t hit it off with Giants coaches, per a source.”
When New York traded up with the Houston Texans, there was a lot of people who thought that the Giants were going to trade for Shedeur Sanders, but they chose Dart instead. New York did heavy scouting on Sanders before the 2025 NFL Draft. With them falling out of love for him, this was one of the reasons why they went with the Rebels quarterback instead.
Dart in 13 games with Ole Miss during the 2024 college football season completed 69.3% of his passes for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also rushed for 495 yards on 124 carries and three touchdowns, along with averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Dart will not need to start the 2025 season with having Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the quarterback room. However, it will be interesting to see what the Giants rookie quarterback will do during training camp also.
