The Texas Longhorns ended its college football season with a loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the college football playoff semifinals. However, Texas will open the 2025 college football season on the road in Week 1 against Ohio State at Buckeyes Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

This will more than likely be two teams being in the Top 5 for a Week 1 matchup. The Longhorns and the Buckeyes will both have championship expectations and also a lot of money tied into the rosters. Who is going to come out on top in this Week 1 matchup?
Paul Finebaum Believes That the Texas Longhorns Will Beat the Ohio State Buckeyes In Week 1

Paul Finebaum of ESPN went onto the show Get Up on ESPN on Friday morning to talk about Arch Manning and the Longhorns. He made an interesting bold statement about the Week 1 matchup against the Buckeyes and Finebaum believes that Texas will win against Ohio State. He said,
“I am as married to Arch Manning as an old geezer like me can be to a young, great college quarterback, but I like everything about him and I think you said something. The Manning name matters, but it isn’t going to matter that field in a couple of weeks at Ohio State. The experience of being an understudy to Ewers and understanding Sark’s system is what’s going to get them over the top and probably — well, not probably — definitely beat Ohio State in the opener.”
Manning will finally be the full-term starter for the Longhorns. He has more potential than Ewers does and he is the most talked about college quarterback since potentially Tim Tebow of the Florida Gators. Manning has a big name, and it is going to be interesting to see how he will live up to expectations.
The Buckeyes do not have a Week 1 starter named yet and that could be another reason why Texas may have the edge over Ohio State in this one. This will be the first time where Manning is truly in the spotlight. It will be tough for the Longhorns to go on the road and win in Week 1, but it is not a surprise that Finebaum predicted Texas over Ohio State because he loves the SEC Conference.
