The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the most well-run franchises over the last few seasons. Philadelphia won its second Lombardi Trophy during the 2024 season against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Eagles have a lot of talent on the roster and core players locked up. One player who is currently on a rookie contract is defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Carter will be entering his third season with Philadelphia. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Georgia Bulldogs. Will he be the next player on this roster to get a long-term deal?
Philadelphia Eagles Jalen Carter Could Receive Contract Extension After 2025 NFL Season

Players on their rookie deals cannot receive a contract extension until after the third season in the NFL. Carter could be the next player on the roster who could potentially get a long-term deal with the franchise. Brooks Kubena of the Athletic said,
“NFL teams can’t enter negotiations with someone they drafted until after the final regular season game of their third contract year. So, there won’t be any news on an extension between the Eagles and Carter during the upcoming season. But GM Howie Roseman spent the offseason tidying up the organization’s books partly to accommodate what could very well be a record-setting contract for their star interior defensive lineman. Carter secured his first Pro Bowl selection in 2024. The degree of his dominance in 2025 will dictate where he’ll eventually land in relation to Kansas City’s Chris Jones, the NFL’s highest-paid interior lineman at $31.75 million. Owner Jeffrey Lurie authorizes Roseman to set the market instead of chasing it. I’d expect the Eagles to again extend another core player sooner rather than later.”
Carter has become one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL. During the 2024 season, he recorded 42 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and six pass deflections. There is a chance that Carter will even have more room to grow in his third season in the NFL with Philadelphia. He saved them from losing in the divisional round last season against the Los Angeles Rams in snowy conditions.
It doesn’t feel fair that Philadelphia went from Fletcher Cox to Carter at the defensive tackle position. The Eagles have been drafting well over the last few years, and they have also made the right trades thanks to Roseman. They will be in contention in the NFC once again in 2025 and if Carter puts up even better numbers this year, then the Eagles will have to pay up.
