The Buffalo Bills took down their biggest rival in a classic on Sunday evening in Orchard Park where they topped the Kansas City Chiefs 30-21. The much-hyped duel between juggernauts Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes lived up to the lofty national expectations that were amplified when CBS announced that it would be the only late game broadcasted across the country. Needless to say, Bills Mafia showed up prepared for a party.
The Chiefs rolled into town undefeated at 9-0 after beating the Denver Broncos last week thanks to a last-second game-saving field goal block that made football fans everywhere wonder if they were simply immortal, a team of destiny. That narrative took a hit when Mahomes’ first throw was an ugly one that was picked off by Taylor Rapp, sending the stadium into a frenzy.

Predictably, it remained close until the end and the Bills faithful started to sense that creeping feeling of familiarity with this Chiefs team that always seems to find a way to tear their opponents’ hearts out late in the game. That is when Josh Allen stepped up in what has become the most iconic moment of his already iconic-moment-filled career and decided to effectively end the game by himself.
The Joshquake
On 4th and 2 on the Kansas City 26 yard line with 2:27 remaining, the Bills had the ball while up 23-21 and coach Sean McDermott knew that a field goal would give the Mahomes, Kelce, and the gang more than enough time to concoct yet another comeback. He has seen that movie before and he does not recommend it. McDermott made the gutsy call to go for the first down and when you have a titan for a quarterback, why not put the game in his hands?
Josh read the defense and saw that his receivers were blanketed so he kept the ball and scampered all the way to the endzone, breaking several tackles along the way, as he is often does, while the crowd erupted in celebration.

The stadium was shaking in the aftermath of that run and shortly after, the wise folks in charge of the Highmark Stadium gameday experience fired up The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside,” which has become an unexpected anthem of sorts for Bills fans.
Josh Allen just went sicko mode on the TD Run…
Then watch the #Bills bench when “Mr. Brightside” starts playing

Kansas City folks, we know that we do not yet have a Super Bowl and this was not even a postseason victory and we will likely meet again in January, but for now, Western New Yorkers are basking in the bright side at 9-2.
