The Cleveland Browns will have the biggest quarterback battle in quite some time. It has already started during OTAs, and it will continue into mandatory minicamp and also training camp as well.

Deshaun Watson is mainly out of the picture because of all of the injuries he has suffered with the Browns. There will be four quarterbacks battling for one starting spot and it will be intriguing to see which quarterbacks Cleveland will keep on the roster for the 2025 NFL season. What is going to be Cleveland’s biggest storyline heading into mandatory minicamp?
CBS Sports Thinks That the Cleveland Browns Quarterback Battle Will Be the Biggest Story In Mandatory Minicamp

Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports listed one storyline for each AFC team entering mandatory minicamp. For the Cleveland Browns, Sullivan thinks that the biggest storyline is the quarterback battle. He believes that the players to watch for on the Browns will be Shedeur Sanders, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Joe Flacco. Sullivan said,
“Maybe the most interesting position battle in the NFL this summer resides in Cleveland. With Deshaun Watson suffering another Achilles injury, the Browns are looking at four quarterbacks this summer to potentially start for them throughout the 2025 campaign. Along with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, the Browns also double-dipped at the position in last April’s NFL Draft, adding Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. As it relates to Sanders, the Colorado signal-caller was projected as a possible first-round pick but notably fell to the fifth round earlier this spring. How he responds to that fall and attacks this quarterback battle could be one of the biggest stories of the summer. And it could start with him making waves with whatever reps he receives at minicamp. “
For now, Sanders has been the fourth quarterback on the Browns depth chart. Gabriel is the third quarterback and either Pickett or Flacco will be in line to be the starting quarterback for Cleveland in Week 1. It would be hard for general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski to keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster for the 2025 NFL season.
Some think that Sanders could separate from everyone else at some point in the quarterback battle. However, the Browns may not want to rush into the fire for Week 1. This is why Cleveland is potentially going to start either Flacco or Pickett in Week 1. It would be a mistake for Gabriel to be the odd man out in the quarterback battle since he was a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and third-round picks usually don’t get cut right away from training camp.
There is no doubt that everyone is going to look at the Browns quarterback battle on a day-to-day basis from mandatory minicamp all the way up to training camp and the 2025 NFL season. Sanders maybe the most watched quarterback from Cleveland camp because of his name.
