The Texas Longhorns are back! They are preparing to try and capture a national championship in 2023. However, head coach Steve Sarkisian is trying to make sure that this isn’t a one-and-done season. With an impending move to the SEC, Texas is going to have to be on top of its game every week. They got a huge boost today when they flipped four-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith from Texas A&M.

Texas Longhorns Flip Tyanthony Smith
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker out of Jasper, Texas had been committed to the Aggies since June. He changed his mind after Texas made a late run. The pitch probably was very simple as Texas is competing for a championship and the Aggies are struggling to keep players in-house. Smith had this to say in a statement about why he chose Texas.
“Texas checked all 3 boxes…culture, opportunity (academically/athletically) and development. Coach Sark has placed some great people in that building and they work together as a UNIT. I am excited for Coach Choate and his head coaching job ! I know Coach Sark is gonna hire another great person/coach at that LB spot because there’s great people all around that building!”
2024 Class
According to On3, Texas currently has the 5th ranked class in the country. Nabbing three five-star recruits definitely helps and the program also has 15 four-star recruits committed. The crazy thing about their ranking is they are still third in the SEC. Georgia and Alabama are first and second respectively with the Bulldogs looking like they have the number one class in the nation locked up. Still, the Longhorns will be happy with a top-ten class.
Can the Texas Longhorns climb to the top of the SEC? 2024 is going to be a fun year with all of this talent in one conference.
