The Texas Longhorns are rewarding Steve Sarkisian.
According to On3, the Texas Longhorns are giving head football coach, Steve Sarkisian a MASSIVE pay raise, which also includes a four-year extension.
Sarkisian will see his pay increase from the $5.6 million that he made in 2023, to $10.3 million in 2024, which will make him the third-highest-paid head coach in all of college football. The deal will also add four years to his contract, which now runs through 2030, and will guarantee him $74.2 million. If Texas wins a national championship between 2024 and 2030, Sarkisian will receive a $1.25 million bonus.
Does Steve Sarkisian Have Texas FINALLY Back?
Following what seems like decades of ‘we’re back’ chatter, all for it to end in a flash, it appears as if the Texas Longhorns could finally, ACTUALLY be back with Steve Sarkisian at the helm.
Following a 6-0 start to their 2023 campaign, which included a victory over Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Texas was flying high as the number three team in the country.
However, it appeared as if the Longhorns were once again about to fall off after a crushing 34-30 loss to their rivals in the form of the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry. This time, it was different, despite a heartbreaking loss in a rivalry game as well as starting QB, Quinn Ewers going down with an injury, Texas ran the table and capped it off with a dominant 49-21 victory over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Texas would make their first-ever College Football Playoff in 2023, but would unfortunately come up short against Michael Penix and the Washington Huskies in the national semifinal to the tune of a 37-31 final score.
