In a recent interview, Texas football starting quarterback Quinn Ewers revealed he believes Texas is the new SEC team to beat.
Ewers, who started his football career with the Ohio State Buckeyes, has been vocal about the level of competition Texas is prepared to play. This past off-season, the massive conference shake-ups finally occurred and have left conferences with new, intriguing members. For Texas football, joining the ultra-competitive SEC has not appeared to affect their current confidence heading into the season.

For quarterback Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns football team, confidence is key heading into their historic first season with the SEC. The SEC has been known for arguably the best, most well-rounded football being played in the country, and the teams that have been in the conference can attest. The SEC has also been a powerhouse for producing next-level talent and sending players off to the NFL year after year.
Other conferences have proven to be tough, or have proven to be able to dish out NFL-ready prospects like the SEC has. However, the real test will come this year when former Big 12 powerhouses Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners will enter their new conference.
Ewers, who helped lead the Texas football team to a CFP Semifinal appearance last season, threw for 3479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions in his final season of Big 12 play. Now, the quarterback will be making a significant defensive jump when he plays in a defense-centric conference.
Quinn Ewers: “We are Going to Be Everybody’s Biggest Game”

Heading into their first season in the SEC, Texas is looking to make noise and prove to the doubters that they have the ability to compete. During a recent interview at the Manning Passing Academy, Ewers stated, “We’re going to be everybody’s biggest game, for sure.”
The quarterback also stated, “It’s definitely a different level. I’ve always wanted to play in the SEC, I know we are all excited to be a part of a conference like that.”
Ewers feels confident in his team, and the Texas Longhorns football team is aiming to make a statement after their success last season. A season ago, the Longhorns defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, and finished the season ranked ahead of all SEC teams.
Is the Texas Longhorns Football Team Prepared for Tough SEC Schedule?

With the success the team had a season ago and the massive return of quarterback Quinn Ewers, it is hard to imagine Texas not being successful this season. The Longhorns have a tough out-of-conference game against the Michigan Wolverines but also play Colorado State, UTSA, and UL-Monroe.
The key for the Longhorns is going to be picking up the two hardest games on the schedule which come against Oklahoma and Georgia. Both are extremely different opponents no matter what the records of each team are. If the Texas football team can make their test against Georgia at least interesting, the Longhorns should have no issues in the SEC.
