TRENDING: Texas Football Fans React to Former Elite Five-Star Quarterback Arch Manning Going Off in Spring Game – 2024 Offseason

The Texas football program is fresh off an epic College Football Playoff berth, its first in school history. Texas played the undefeated Washington Huskies, formerly of the Pac-12, in the Sugar Bowl, falling in heartbreaking fashion, 37-31. However, Texas made massive strides from the previous year, with a three-win increase in conference play and posting top-15 averages in points per game scored and the fewest points allowed.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have CFP aspirations again in 2024, especially with the expanded postseason format. Additionally, they will return quarterback Quinn Ewers for another season. However, despite the Heisman Trophy-caliber quarterback returning for a third season, Texas football fans were ecstatic with the play of their backup quarterback during Saturday’s spring game. Arch Manning, the former five-star quarterback and nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning, has been making waves in the football world since his high school days at Isidore Newman. His performance on Saturday, where he shined by posting a monster stat line in the intrasquad scrimmage, is a testament to his potential.

Arch Manning, the future face of the Texas football program, played well on Saturday during his team’s annual spring showcase. Manning spun the rock, going 17-of-21 for 343 yards and three scores. The Louisiana native opened up the scoring for Team White, firing a deep touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore. Manning then linked up with wideout Jaydon Blue for a score. Manning navigated the pocket well, stepping away from pressure before firing a strike to Blue across the middle. Finally, Manning showed his pure passing ability, lobbing a beauty to Isaiah Bond down the sideline for his third touchdown.

Manning regularly showcased excellent pocket presence, touch on passes outside the numbers, and an ability to work through his progression. Texas football fans were elated with his performance, taking to Twitter (also known as X) to share their excitement about Manning.

    Texas Football: QB Depth Chart

    Texas Football, Quinn Ewers
Texas Longhorns quarterback Q. Ewers celebrates his touchdown in the first quarter against the Kansas Jayhawks at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 30, 2023. (Texas Longhorns football team). Ewers remains the starter for the Texas Longhorns, albeit a strong performance from his future replacement, Arch Manning, on Saturday.

Despite Arch Manning’s elite performance on Sunday, quarterback Quinn Ewers remains the unquestioned leader for Texas football. Ewers played well in 2023, accumulating 2,379 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six picks while completing 69% of his passes. Ewers displayed massive improvement last season after throwing for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six picks in 2022. Ewers also improved as a runner, rushing for five touchdowns in 12 games.

Like Manning, Ewers is a former five-star recruit. Conversely, Ewers started at Ohio State University, where he spent one season before transferring to Texas. If Ewers is to miss time in 2023, Manning should be the next man up, especially after fellow backup Maalik Murphy moved to the Duke Blue Devils.
