Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman has officially entered the transfer portal. Weigman announced this decision on December 3 after the Aggies’ regular season ended in a 17-7 loss to the Texas Longhorns. Weigman started 13 games at Texas A&M and had a 9-4 record. This season, he lost the starting job to Marcel Reed, a freshman dual-threat quarterback. Conner Weigman was recruited to Texas A&M as a five-star prospect. He is a talented pocket passer, but injuries, coaching changes, and recruits caused him to be passed over. With two years of eligibility remaining, Weigman will look for a new school to win the starting job.

Conner Weigman started five games for the Aggies this season. In those games, Weigman was 4-1. He threw for 819 yards for three touchdowns and five interceptions. His first start of the season was against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Weigman struggled, completing 12-of-30 passes for a mere 100 yards and two interceptions. The Aggie offense could only muster 13 points, losing 23-13. This performance made Texas A&M fans eager for a quarterback change, and they got it a few weeks later. Conner Weigman was benched for Marcel Reed in Texas A&M’s first SEC game against Florida. The Aggies won 33-20.
Reed started a couple more games before Conner Weigman got another chance. Facing Missouri, he threw for 276 yards in a 41-10 blowout win. This performance temporarily made Weigman the starting quarterback again. He led the Aggies to another win next week over Mississippi State, throwing for 217 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The next game, however, was the final start for Weigman at Texas A&M. The Aggies’ offense struggled in a big primetime game versus LSU. Conner Weigman was benched for Reed, and that gave the Texas A&M offense the spark they needed to win the game.
The LSU game was the final decider in the Weigman and Reed quarterback controversy. Conner Weigman gave Texas A&M a more pro-style offense with his pocket passing, while Reed’s running ability let them focus on the ground game. But, as the better pure passer of the two, Weigman’s numbers did not live up to the billing. He often struggled against good defenses like Notre Dame and LSU, making the offense stagnant, while throwing more interceptions than touchdowns. Reed’s speed helped the Aggie offense open things up and spread out. Reed was the starting quarterback for the rest of the season and Texas A&M finished with an 8-4 record.
Where Conner Weigman Goes from Here

In his collegiate career at Texas A&M, Conner Weigman threw for 2,694 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The talent is evident with Weigman. He was a five-star recruit who showed flashes of potential despite the eventual benching. Where he goes from here will be an interesting development to watch. As a pocket passer, Weigman was not as strong of a fit in the Aggies offense as Reed. He will likely go somewhere he can compete for a starting job in an offensive system that is better suited to his play style. After dealing with injuries during his time at Texas A&M, a fresh start and system could be just what he needs.
Many teams are speculated to target Conner Weigman in the transfer portal. According to a report from Pete Nakos, the five teams to watch are Syracuse, Missouri, Louisville, Iowa, and Wisconsin. These programs would benefit from someone like Weigman coming in. Syracuse’s quarterback, Kyle McCord, is a senior. Wisconsin and Iowa are both teams that have struggled with their starting quarterback play this season. So, Conner Weigman will likely find a home somewhere. As a five-star prospect who’s dealt with injury struggles, it would be encouraging to see him find a team he could thrive with.
