Terry McLaurin spent his career with the Washington Commanders, having played for them in six seasons. However, the wide receiver’s stint with his team remains riddled with uncertainty this offseason.
Drafted 76th overall in 2019, McLaurin signed his first contract with the Commanders to a three-year, $71 million contract in July 2022. As the final season of that deal approaches, the former Ohio State Buckeye had made it clear that he wants to continue playing for his team.
However, Washington has yet to extend Terry McLaurin’s contract, pointing to his absence during voluntary OTAs and the mandatory minicamp, which he argued was due to the unresolved deal issues.
Speaking on SportsCenter on Saturday, analyst Jeremy Fowler gave insight on the Commanders’ ongoing negotiations with McLaurin.
“I talked to someone within the team who said, ‘Look, we want Terry McLaurin to be a Commander for life,'” Fowler said [1:50].
“It’s just been probably a little slower than everyone expected. These are hard deals to do. That receiver market is over $30 million per year, and he’s a star receiver. They got five or six weeks before camp to try and shake that out.”

Meanwhile, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared his thoughts on the consequences of McLaurin’s absence from the Commanders’ meetings.
“I know Terry was not there for a lot of it,” Rapoport said on Monday. “And I would say very much up in the air whether he shows up this week at a contract situation that as of right now, is not great.”

Starting in all of the Commanders’ games since 2019, Terry McLaurin caught 460 receptions, 6,379 yards, and 38 touchdowns in his career.
Analyst weighs in on Terry McLaurin landing on the West Coast
Speculation runs over Terry McLaurin‘s future with the Commanders, with rumors of him being traded to another team discussed by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox. In his article, the analyst discussed the potential packages Washington could accept in exchange for McLaurin.

The Los Angeles Chargers were Knox’s first team, believing McLaurin would successfully pair with the quarterback Justin Herbert.
“McLaurin would walk into L.A. as Herbert’s top perimeter target and would instantly elevate the passing game,” Knox wrote. “For a team looking to leapfrog the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West and make a deep postseason push, that would be huge.”
“And like the Cardinals ($40.9 million), the Chargers should have the cap space ($27.9 million) needed to work out a long-term extension with McLaurin.”

Other teams that Knox had mentioned that could acquire Terry McLaurin include the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, and the Tennessee Titans.
