The Tennessee Volunteers boasted one of the best defenses in all of college football last season. Tennessee’s pass defense deserves a ton of credit for allowing the 7th-fewest points per game and giving up the 39th-fewest completions, the 29th-fewest passing yards, and the 6th-fewest passing touchdowns among 134 qualified FBS schools. Their defensive coordinator, Tim Banks, deserves a ton of credit, as the Volunteers gave him a one-year extension.
The Tennesee Volunteers transfer cornerback deserves a ton of credit for having a top passing defense

The sophomore transfer cornerback from the Oregon State Beavers, Jermod McCoy, deserves a ton of credit as well for the Volunteers’ dominant pass defense. McCoy tied for the most interceptions and led the team in pass deflections with 44 tackles, four interceptions, and nine pass deflections. His efforts earned him an All-SEC Second Team (League Coaches) and AP All-American Second Team honors.
If all goes well for the talented cornerback, he could very well be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, his junior season may have to wait.
Volunteers’ elite 2nd-team All-SEC cornerback suffered a significant injury

According to Patrick Brown of 247Sports, Jermod McCoy suffered a torn ACL early in the month while training at his home in Texas. As Brown points out, McCoy has already undergone knee surgery in Knoxville, and he will miss spring practice. It’s unclear whether the elite cornerback will miss the start of the 2025 season.

If he misses a few games in 2025, it would be a huge loss for the Volunteers defense.
