Tennessee Titans vs. Miami Dolphins – Monday Night Football
The Tennessee Titans, a franchise whose foundation is built on upon the Music City Miracle, completed one of the most improbable comebacks in NFL history last night on Monday Night Football. With 2:45 remaining, the Titans trailed the Miami Dolphins 27-13, in what had been a fairly decent night for the Titans offensively. Two costly turnovers by the Titans, a muffed punt and a botched toss to Henry, put the Titans in the late game deficit.
Until the Titans comeback, since 2017, NFL teams trailing by 14 or more points with under 3-minutes were 0-582, according to NFL Research.
Scoring Drive #1
Following a Raheem Mostert score, which tied the Miami Dolphins single season rushing TD record (Ricky Williams – 16), the Titans got the ball back with 4:34 left on the clock. Rookie QB Will Levis led the Titans on an 80-yard, 12 play drive that included 2 massive throws, one for 21-yards to Tyjae Spears and another 23 yarder to Westbrook-Ikhine. The drive ended on a crossbody throw from Levis to legendary Titans wideout Deandre Hopkins.
Scoring Drive #2
The Titans got the ball back with 2:15 remaining on the clock, down 27-21. Will Levis went back to the well again on the first play of the drive, throwing a 36-yard crosser to Deandre Hopkins. Levis threw a quick screen to Okonkwo to set up an eventual goal line setup. Derrick Henry fell into the end zone to tie it up 27-27. Kicker Nick Folk sealed the comeback with an extra point making the score 28-27.
With the win, the Titans secured their first road victory of the season and took their record to 5-8 overall, unfortunately still having them last in the AFC South. The Dolphins fall to 9-4 overall still atop the AFC East. With one month remaining in the season the Dolphins playoff hopes are obviously still healthy, however the biggest question is if their juggernaut receiver, Tyreek Hill, can say the same. The receiver had a nagging ankle issue that kept him out of several offensive possessions last night for the Dolphins. If he is hurt, or even if he’s not 100-percent, the Dolphins could potentially drop the division lead to the Buffalo Bills and enter the playoffs on the struggle bus.
The Titans, on the other hand, have some optimism they can reflect on following the historic comeback. Titans fans should feel a sense of relief in knowing that the franchise has most likely found their next longterm option at Quarterback. Will Levis impressed last night, both with his performance, but also with his leadership and enthusiasm. Last night, Levis went 23 for 388 with 327 passing yards, one touchdown, a passer rating of 86.2, and drove the team on these two epic drives. His maturation is well underway and it’s definitely something Titans fans should feel good about.
We knew we had an opportunity to do something special tonight on national television… hope America liked what they saw. We got a special locker room. This shows our perseverance… this is what it’s all about. – Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis
